Jesus for President (Part 2)

screen-shot-2016-10-25-at-11-29-55-am

I’m officially sick of politics.

But there’s seriously no competition in the race for best PM and government when Jesus is in the picture. And in the end, our vote doesn’t determine his rule and reign. This baby is happening.

The ball is in your court to decide whether you want to be part of His government. In Part 1 we discussed three reasons why Jesus is (by far) the best leader the world has and will ever see. So without further ado, here’s three more reasons in this – Part 2:

_________________________________________________________________

  • He provides the solution to the biggest problem facing humanity

Forget the economy. Forget jobs. Forget global warming. Forget social status.

The single biggest issue facing the world today is death. Nobody escapes it. Everyone plays to its tune. And so we dance our way around in life, looking for ways to prolong what is destined for the grave.

We avoid unhealthy habits. We keep our body and bank account healthy. We seek good times and happiness. We work, accumulate, consume, die. All for what?

It’s all pretty hopeless. And so surely any good leader cares enough to at least address the biggest issue we will ever face. And believe it or not, Jesus does.

But even more than that. What’s amazing is that Jesus had life at the centre of his teachings. He consistently and intentionally promises a cure. A way to the truth and fullness of life.

Namely, himself.

Jesus Humility

So don’t you ever tell me Jesus is not relevant because he lived 2000 odd years ago. But if you do, please explain how death doesn’t affect the world anymore.

This Jesus is extremely relevant.

Because Jesus didn’t just address the issue of death by illustrating what a painful death looks like. Jesus didn’t just acknowledge mankind’s biggest problem and then leave it hanging. He solved our greatest problem by leaving himself hanging.

His death wasn’t the end of the story. And that sets this leader apart from all others.

  • He fulfils all his promises.

Isn’t this something we lack in politics nowadays.

Politicians are increasingly being characterised by their inability to follow through on promises. Heck, there are even websites tracking the number of broken promises for each government. We expect the leaders of our nation to break definite promises.

Read that again. Let it sink in.

Jesus on the other hand has a perfect track record with promises. Completely contrary to the world’s leaders, when God makes a promise we expect it to happen. And it does.

That a nation would come from the line of Abraham? Tick (Genesis 17:2). That a nation stuck in slavery would be brought out of Egypt? Yep (Exodus 14-15). That a leader from the line of David would rule forever? You bet your bottom dollar (Isaiah 9:6; Luke 1:69).

And not just that. Ridiculous prophecies (God inspired predictions) were made 400-700 years B.C. to foreshadow this coming leader from the line of David.

And the chances of someone fulfilling all of them is astronomical.

The compelling nature of prophecies fulfilled by the person of Jesus, cannot be explained by way of pure chance.

Some smart people got together and did some cool maths stuff.

They found that the chances of winning the lottery are 1 in 259,000,000. So pretty crazy. But they found the chances of someone fulfilling just 8 (of the suggested 48) prophecies are way more ridiculous: 1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000.

But that isn’t all folks. The research team also estimated the chance of one man fulfilling all 48 prophecies: 1 in 10 to the power of 157. That’s a 1 followed by 157 zeroes.

That’s a lot of zeroes.

Jesus fulfilled all promises and prophecies. Forget Leicester City, The Chicago Cubs and the Western Bulldogs. Jesus literally embodies the biggest upset and logic defying performance of all time. A pretty darn big fluke.

Unless you believe in a God who fulfils all his promises. Then it just makes sense.

  • His rule and reign will never end

This is where we bring it all together.

Kingdom literally translated is King’s Dominion – just shortened. So because Jesus smashed sin and death to pieces, his dominion extends beyond death.

And this is perhaps one of the greatest promises made by God.

That through Jesus, we have access to God (Hebrews 10:20). He has made a way to life (John 14:6). And anyone who believes and places trust in our awesome candidate is welcome into His kingdom (John 3:16).

You’d be crazy to turn that offer down.

img_3475

I love this quote.

I pray with this in mind most mornings. It is significant to me for a number of reasons. You see, from the hand of God everything was created. He crafted and chiseled out the universe and everything in it from nothing.

So this reminds me that God is totally in control of all things. And sometimes, when all is out of hand, that’s when I see his fingerprints the most.

But more than that. God’s hands signify our citizenship.

Because Jesus lives, his kingdom endures

Jesus handed us the hammer. And with the nail, we smashed the whole world’s sin and junk into the hand of God. And three days later, Jesus proved he had power over it.

The crazy irony. That the nails we drove in with intentions to stay the hand of God, would become the lasting blows of justice.

Talk about grace.

Jesus, by nature and profession a carpenter, gave amateurs the hammer to deliver the blows of a new covenant (Matt 26:28). To make something new of his body, the church.

And so we can approach God with full confidence (Hebrews 4:16). Knowing that our deepest scars of sin have been dealt with.

The hands of God cannot be held down. And neither can his Kingdom.

THE FINAL PITCH

king-jesus_620

Look at all the bullet points again. Let’s recap the leader and government outlined.

A prime minister that rules with authority, justice and fairness. And yet, a leader that is down to earth and humble in every way. Fully understanding of the struggles and deepest sufferings of his people.

The biggest problem humanity faces he addresses and solves. All promises he makes are fulfilled. He ushers in a kingdom full of his people that humbly serve and care for one another. Everyone in his kingdom is included and important. And it starts from the top.

Now ask yourself: is this the sort of leadership and government I want out of office?

Jesus offers real hope, and real change for real life issues

That’s the sort of leader I want to follow. That’s the sort of people I want to be part of.

And if we believe Jesus is the top candidate, we naturally become his ambassadors (2 Corinthians 5:20). God uses us to tell the world how awesome his government is.

We are called to contain, proclaim and live by the values of this kingdom (Hebrews 10:23). To let the activity of the King be evident in our lives (Phillipians 2:13). To give the world just a snippet of what is (and is) to come.

All the forces of hell will try to overthrow it. The world will experience great turmoil and tremendous upheaval. Heck, we might even face an election with shocking candidates.

But through it all, we are not shaken (Psalm 16:8). We have intense confidence in our leader who put the forces of death to shame. God’s kingdom will never end. All people are welcome.

And that is reason to celebrate.

Jesus never wanted the image of Himself as a King but rather as the suffering servant.

You are partly right Burdick. Jesus definitely came to serve and not be served (Mark 10:45), a picture of a suffering servant if there ever was one. And definitely an example we should follow. But to deny the uniqueness and deity of Jesus is to completely miss the point.

Check out Part 1 of this blog, where I explain how Jesus combined humility with absolute authority – something the world had never seen before. The Lamb of God (John 1:29) in His time on earth, and the Lion of Judah (Revelation 5:5) when he returns. Our Suffering Servant and All Conquering King together in one.

Hope this makes sense 🙂 appreciate your time!

Agreed, and Burdick, if I may… I agree with what you are saying as well, but I also think that is only a part of the story. His servanthood is an awesome example for us to emulate for sure! Yet there are several good passages to check out in relation to Jesus’ position as King of kings — a position which is currently recognized in the heavenlies but that He has not yet come and asserted fully here on earth as He will on the great and terrible Day of the Lord. Among them are 1 Timothy 3:13-16 and Revelation 17:14 and 19:16 (and surrounding passages).

I did not have time to address this fully after reading your post this morning, but I absolutely love this. It is thoroughly applicable to what my nation is going through right now (and really to any nation under any kind of government).

What you said about all of us expecting our government leaders to break promises is so, so true. I touched on it in my most recent post which is largely a reaction to how many believers in my nation handled the aftermath of our recent election. I am going to share your post, too, because I love the way you handled it here, reminding us all that “the government will be upon His shoulders” because ultimately some day it will be.

Excellent Message my brother in Christ. The bottom line is men appoint men to rule over their flesh. God appointed a King to rule over our souls. One leader take His subjects to a fiery condemnation, while the other leads His loyal subjects to Heavenly rest. Scripture say that we are aliens and strangers here in a dark World (1 Peter 2:11), so why would we partake in their electing of a leader? Scripture also says that those who are led by the spirit of God are children of God (Romans 8:14), meaning those who are led by the flesh are children of the Devil (Romans 8:5-9). We know that our God is a jealous God, we know that it is impossible to serve two masters (Matthew 6:24), and finally, we know that Satan is the ruler of this World (John 12:31), so what business do we have in their Worldly process?

As Christians, we have a huge mission ahead of us and we can ill afford the distractions and snares that hinder our ability to serve as Servants, Sons/Daughters, and Soldiers of God. after all, what soldier gets involved in civilian affairs (2 Timothy 2:3-4)?

    God Bless You.

As Christians we do have a huge task in front of us. One we should all take more seriously (not least myself). Especially knowing that Jesus has already won the battle over sin. Bless you mate, appreciate your time once again 🙂

In the Epistles, they tell us to submit to the authorities over us. In America, we are privileged to vote. If we don’t vote, then allowing corrupt people into office is like voting for them to get in. People rarely vote in the Primaries, where the largest choice of candidates get whittled down to one choice. Anyway, someone, maybe Jonathan Edwards, who preached “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God,” spoke about being involved in this life. If we don’t, then evil people rule the courts, make the laws, put money into movies that impact souls, write books or publish magazines that blaspheme God, and feed our children propaganda. I’m not saying to get overly distracted, but I’m saying that God cares about the affairs of men. We need to pray and ask Him for our assignments, which may be a school teacher, a movie maker, an ethical judge, etc. God bless, Soldier of the Cross.

Greetings Sister Constance. I pray that God’s grace and mercy rest upon you and yours. You mentioned that 1 Peter 2:13 where scripture says to submit ourselves, for the Lord’s sake to every human authority. What that scripture is encouraging is that, yes, we follow the rules of the land, as long as they do not cause us to compromise following God’s Word. You should read verses 14-17 and you’ll clearly see that it references authority that is sent by God to support His righteousness and justice. It is fair to say that none of the”candidates” represent our God. In Matthew 22:21 Jesus said “give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and give to God what is God’s, meaning that even Jesus was obligated to follow the basic rule of civilization, but He was cautious not to ever forsake God’s rules for man. In Romans 12:1-2 it reminds us that our lives are the sacrifice that we give to God in return for the blood that was shed at the cross. We no longer live according to the World and our fleshly desires, we live for, in and by God’s power. It goes on to urge us not to conform with the ways of this World, but to be transformed by the renewing of of thinking. Meaning that we have understanding and wisdom that is contrary to the ways of man. We know that Satan is indeed the God of this World as is confirmed in John 12:31, 14:30 and in Matthew 4:9 where Satan offers Jesus the World.

You said that God cares about the affairs of men, and that is so very true. The whole reason that God gave His only Son was because He cares for and loves us more than we deserve (John 3:16). 2 Peter 3:9 states that our Lord doesn’t want anyone to perish, but to come to repentance. God’s love and care is in Christ Jesus, and those who choose to follow His example of obedience. In Matthew 10:34 Jesus said that He did not come to bring peace on Earth. In Christ we have been freed from the obligation to follow law, regulations and routines that are contrary to faith in God. We know that this World is doomed for destruction, and there is nothing we can do to stop that! What we can do is seek God’s grace and mercy with reverent fear and trembling for we understand the outcome for all that do not submit to His Sovereign Authority.

In conclusion, we know that this is Satan’s World, so therefore we understand that it is always going to be filled with ever growing darkness. Jesus said in John 12:46 I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness, meaning that we no longer walk in the darkness of the World, we walk in the light of the Lord. Clearly light and dark are opposites, so how can it be that Christians are walking in unison with unbelievers? Finally, it is true that Jesus came to serve, not to be served. He came to serve the hope and Salvation that come in God’s Word. Jesus offered mankind a choice; life or death, darkness or light, Salvation or condemnation. We are fishers of men and our assignment is clear; to urge men to be reconciled to God…

I pray that yo receive God’s Word of Truth with a humble and contrite heart so that it will take root and grow you in His wisdom.

I didn’t vote in this election. I just didn’t have it in me to vote for any of the candidates and saw it as a waste of my time. People are putting a lot of hope in Trump. On both sides. The liberals are sure of him being able to ruin the country and turn back the time to when we were more racist, masoginist, sexist, and such. The conservatives think he’s the next savior, bailing us out of Obamacare and terrorism. I have no hope with way in government. God is and always has been in control. That’s where my faith and hope remain. Great post.

It’s almost comedic to me. Evangelicals actually think Trump was sent by God to save America. Hahaha!!! While I know God is Sovereign, Trump is no King David. He’s really just a bumbling idiot with a big mouth. Can God use bumbling idiots? Sure. But to put our hope in one is foolish. Where are you from? Sorry I just assumed you were in America. And his name shall be called, Wonderful, Counselor, The Son of God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6). Can you imagine – a world leader that could be considered, “a prince of peace.”

How true! If Yahushua (His proper & rightful name) if He is the King or President in one’s heart, no need to be concerned about any president in the USA or in this corrupt world.

If He is truly one’s King, President, Master Owner of one’s being on the 24/7 basis? One lives a resurrected life far better and above any laws & systems out of the human mind.

We are disjointed members of His Body, now co-existent in this corrupt world but! One by one He is joining us together for eternity. His return is soon to be but, He will not come back for a disjointed body.
